Frank Quesada, associate in the firm’s Miami office, has been appointed to the Coral Gables Community Foundation Board of Directors.  Mr. Quesada specializes in litigation and real estate law.

The Coral Gables Community Foundation was established, in September 1991, by community leaders with the mission of fostering programs and initiatives that encourage cultural, educational, health, historic preservation and charitable projects which contribute to the quality of life for people living and working in our community.

Since that time, the Foundation has aided worthy programs that help the youth, elderly and disabled citizens. Foundation grants have helped provide dental care for needy children, fund cultural activities, provide financial assistance in the form of small grants for families in distress, and have acted as a catalyst for many projects through its many initiatives.

The Foundation strongly advocates academic advancement for our youth by extending a variety of scholarships, including dance and music scholarship to talented young people. As an outreach to the community at large, the Foundation also offers seminars to educate the public on important health, finance and estate planning issues.

The Coral Gables Community Foundation manages several scholarship, pass-through, donor-advised and designated funds for non-profits, individuals and specific projects. Among the Foundation’s diverse initiatives is “Parknership”, a public/private program to preserve green spaces, create new parks, renovate fountains and enhance existing parks. Another initiative developed by the Foundation to ease the burden of transportation for the elderly is “GranTran”, designed to provide seniors with transportation through a network of volunteers. This program has since been turned over to Little Brothers’ Friends of the Elderly, who now serve a growing list of seniors in need.

The most challenging project, which is in the final stages, involves converting the historic municipal building, known as the City’s Old Police and Fire Station, into the Coral Gables Museum. The Museum is located at 285 Aragon Avenue.

The Foundation’s “Greening of the Gables” project is designed to restore Gables’ tree canopy and other green areas by planting trees, bushes and tropical foliage in rights of way, parks and downtown urban development. The first project for this initiative was the installation of eight beautiful large ornamental palms planted on the 200 and 300 blocks of Alhambra. A once bare space is now a lovely entrance to the downtown business district with the promise of more trees to come in the future thanks to the “Greening of the Gables” Initiative.
